What is Girls on the Run?
Girls on the Run of St. Louis is a non-profit program for girls in grades 3 through 8. The program encourages pre-teen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. It combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) race with self-esteem building and life-skills exercises to enhance not only physical health, but also social, mental, and emotional well-being. Social responsibility is also addressed through community service.
Girls on the Run of St. Louis is affilitated with Girls on the Run International (GOTRI), the parent organization of more than 140 Girls on the Run network locations across the United States and Canada serving over 60,000 girls.
GOTRI establishes, trains and supports a network of community-level councils with local volunteers. The structured 12 week curriculum provides the girls with the tools they need for lifelong healthy living and self-respect.
