Practice Partner

Serving as a practice partner* is an amazing opportunity to get involved with Girls on the Run and make a difference in the lives of girls in your community.  Practice partners join the Girls on the Run participants throughout the season and at the 5k celebration. *The following information is relevant only if a practice partner also plans to assist with a team throughout the season. If this is not the case and you only plan to participate in the 5k with a girl you know, volunteer paperwork and training is not required.*

Summary of Role:

A practice partner is a volunteer position for individuals interested in providing support for Girls on the Run participants during the 10-week season and at the 5k celebration. Practice partners provide enthusiasm, encouragement and support to the girls throughout the program, at the practice 5k and at the Girls on the Run 5k race. Note: Practice partners are not automatically registered for the 5k; registration and payment (discounted) must be completed by the individual. This role is perfect for someone who wants to be involved with a Girls on the Run team, but can’t regularly commit to attending program sessions each week.

Core Duties/Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Understanding and believing in the mission of Girls on the Run
  • Encouraging and motivating all participants
  • Attending program sessions as schedule allows to assist with lessons and create bonds with the girls
  • Participating in games and workouts with the girls as needed
  • Participating in the practice 5k
  • Helping plan community service project and end-of-season banquet as requested by head coach
  • Participating in the Girls on the Run 5k race

Qualifications:

  • A great desire to make a difference in the life of young girls
  • Capacity to work in a partnership with head and assistant coach(es)
  • Ability to be flexible and to improvise when needed
  • Strives to lead a healthy lifestyle

Requirements:

  • Consent to background check
  • Female or Male
  • At least 16 years old
  • (Not required, but encouraged) Attend a four-hour coaches training with Girls on the Run staff
