Program Registration
The 10-week Girls on the Run and Girls on Track programs are offered twice a year – in the fall and in the spring. Participants meet twice a week, usually after school, for approximately 75 – 90 minutes each practice. Register for Girls on the Run or Girls on Track
A parent/guardian must complete an online registration form for each girl. Before you begin, review the list of sites that offer Girls on the Run and Girls on Track and their practice days and times as well as the Registration Checklist or Registration Checklist Espanol to see what information you’ll need to have on hand in order to register.
With any questions regarding the online registration process, payment plans, etc., please call our office at 314-862-6266. If you are in need of the online registration form interpreted from English to a different language, please call and ask for Courtney, Girls on the Run St. Louis Executive Director.
January 30 – February 10: General Registration Closed
Once you’ve completed the registration process, you will receive an email confirming that your registration has been received. Please check that you’ve received an email following your registration. This email does not guarantee a spot on the team.
Your credit card will be charged at the time of registration. In case of a lottery, refunds will be issued. Please refer to the confirmation email for details. If you choose to pay by check, please do not send a check until you are notified that your daughter is on the team.
After registration closes on February 10, all registered participants will receive follow-up emails notifying them of their status, as follows:
• Girls whose schools are oversubscribed (17+ girls per team) will be automatically entered into a random lottery. Once the lottery is completed, parents will be notified whether or not their daughter has been added to the team.
• Girls whose school teams have not been over-subscribed will receive a confirmation email confirming their daughter’s participation in the program. At this time, you should mail in your check.
Refunds
Girls the Run St. Louis will refund 100% of the registration fee prior to the second lesson of the program. After that we will refund 50% of the registration fee if requested in writing prior to the 4th lesson. No refunds will be issued for any cancellations after the 4th lesson. If a site is canceled due to insufficient registration or other circumstances deemed appropriate by the Program Director, the full registration fee will be refunded. All requests for a refund must be made directly to the Girls on the Run office, not through a coach.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many girls are on a team?
Team size is between 8 and 17 girls. The curriculum was designed for a group this size to facilitate team building and a healthy group dynamic. Fewer than eight girls and more than 17 make it difficult to provide the experience we seek to offer the girls. If a site does not have the minimum number of girls by the first practice day, parents will be notified and refunds will be given. If a site has more than 17 girls, they may choose to form an additional team if there are enough coaches. Some schools have multiple teams, but it’s dependent upon the number of trained volunteer coaches and practice space available at the school/site.
How are participants chosen?
In the event that there is more interest than the school/site can take, our online registration system will randomly select girls to form the team(s). Girls are not chosen on a first-come, first-served basis.
Are there any fees for Girls on the Run?
Yes. View Program Fees for more details.
What if a girl is unable to pay the program fee?
Full and partial scholarships are available based on need. In 2010, Girls on the Run St. Louis awarded $173,537 in scholarships and plans to award $360,000 in 2011/2012 school year. To date we have never had to turn a girl away for financial reasons. Any registered Girls on the Run participant is eligible for a scholarship, regardless of the program fee at her school. While assistance is awarded based on annual income and number of people living in your household, special circumstances that contribute to a request for financial assistance are certainly considered. Please know that we request all scholarship recipients to pay a portion of the program fee, however nominal that may be, so there is buy-in and a sense of pride and ownership. Scholarship requests can be made during the online registration process.
Payment plans are available for those who can make payments in installments.
Sibling discounts are also an option for anyone who has 2 or more siblings in the program during the same season. The first girl pays the entire fee and any subsequent siblings pay 50%.
Can my daughter participate in GOTR at another site if the program is not at her school?
Girls on the Run is ok with a girl joining a GOTR team at another school as long as transportation is not an issue, the school approves and the girl is available during the set practice days and times. Be aware that girls who attend the school get first preference to participate on the Girls on the Run team. View a complete list of our locations in Missouri and Illinois.
Starting the program at your school/site is also an option. Visit Start a Program at your School for more information. Please be advised that site applications are due approximately four months prior to the start of the season.
Can my daughter still register for the program if she can only attend one practice per week?
No. It is critically important to the efficacy of the girls’ program experience that they participate in both sessions each week from a group dynamic and experiential learning process perspective and to fully train for the end-of-season 5k.
